Post #1596, COVID-19, now 17 cases per 100K per day

The U.S. now stands at 18 17 new COVID-19 cases per 100K population per day, down one two from the end of last week.

In short, the slow post-Labor Day decline in newly diagnosed cases continues.

Deaths and hospitalization remain where they were, around 350 and 4`100 per day, respectively.

Data source for this and other graphs of new case counts:  Calculated from The New York Times. (2021). Coronavirus (Covid-19) Data in the United States. As of today, every state is below 30 new cases per 100K per day.  North Carolina was the last holdout. Two states — Arizona and Georgia — are below 10 new cases per 100K per day, as of today’s data.

If you look at the current situation in the context of the entire pandemic, you can see that there are still a lot of daily new cases and new hospital admissions.  But daily COVID-19 deaths are almost the lowest they have been since the start of the pandemic.
