Post G24-016: Gardening update, early June 2024.

Posted on June 6, 2024

Seven garden items, roughly 25 words each.

1:  Weeding works your glutes.

Weeding.  My preferred pose involves stooping over and squatting down a bit.  A glute workout.  It’s like Tai Chi, but you get something done.

2:  Black raspberries are in season.

Black raspberries? My wife loves them. The deer won’t eat them. What’s not to like?  Not my favorite, due to fruit size and seediness.

3:  Bird scare tape is pretty …

… ineffective.  That conclusion, based on the scene from my garden, above.

4:  Poor pea yield this year.  No clue why.

It’s June. Pea blossoms are gone. Yield?  One scant portion a day, for a week or so, from this double row. Total contrast to last year’s bounty (Post G23-017).

5:  My garlic is dying back.

But it’s OK, it’s just that time.  Plant in October.  Harvest June-ish.  Instructions on when to harvest garlic are a bit vague.

6:  Ginger lives!

That’s almost two months of growth?  Ginger doesn’t do much when the weather is cool.  She wants 90F soil temperatures.  She’s just now perking up.

7:  Potatoes, just doing their thing.

Potatoes have looked suspiciously good all season.  Currently hilled with hay, lying down, and getting ready to die back.
