Post #1950: A couple of sketchy things.

Sketchy power lines.

I have trees, big trees, in my front yard, with limbs that have grown so as to press on non-power overhead lines. Looks like I’m threatening cable service/internet (?), for the block, and, separately, for myself, in different places where a tree is pressing on a line.

For power lines, Dominion says it’s responsible.  I think.  Or, at least, they tend to those, periodically.  They send around crews to trim the trees, from time to time,to keep the trees off their lines.  I think we’ve seen them twice in 15 years.

Separately, there’s whether my “regular” tree guy can deal with these safely, or do I need to hire something special?  Not just for his (or his crew’s) personal safety, but e.g., if it’s near the power lines, are you supposed to leave it to Dominion?

No clue.  Only thing I’m sure if is that I’m not going to do that cutting.  And I’m not even going to go down the Dominion route, whatever it is.  I’m gonna hire a guy.  That way, he can do it to suit me, and take care of whatever other tree issues we might have.

Sketchy walk

Then there’s this whole section of today’s walk.  It’s inherently sketchy, as the walking surface isn’t a proper sidewalk.  But in addition, the … pedestrian guard fence? … has clearly suffered a major un-repaired boo-boo.

Several (three) metal fence posts have been mowed down, and are now sitting bent over to the ground.  A big section of the fence has separated from the top rail.  To me, this suggests this fence got hit by a vehicle.  (Ya think?)

Per Google Maps, the three mown-down fenceposts were upright as of July 2022.  But one was unpainted, and it sure looks like the fence was barely attached to the handrail, if at all.

Turns out, the unpainted post and the discontinuity in the handrail showed between 2019 and 2021.

The car guard rail appears sometime between 2009 and 2012.

So it’s a good guess there have been repeated hits to this fence, over the years.

Being a little run-down can sometimes add charm or character to a town.

But not here.  It’s not like chain-link fence is the most decorative of objects in the first place.  This is just chain-link fence in gross disrepair.  It’s sketchy, not rustic.

That said, if having to walk past that is the worst thing that happens to me today, it’ll have been a fine day.
