Post #1584, COVID-19, post-Labor Day decline (!)

Posted on September 8, 2022

At this point, it looks like the daily new COVID-19 case count has declined relative to the pre-Labor Day period.  The U.S. stands at 22 new cases per 100K population per day.

Data source for this and other graphs of new case counts:  Calculated from The New York Times. (2021). Coronavirus (Covid-19) Data in the United States. Retrieved 983/2022, from https://github.com/nytimes/covid-19-data.”  The NY Times U.S. tracking page may be found at https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/coronavirus-us-cases.html

Possibly more interesting, we’re seeing states get into the single-digit new case counts again.  Even though the average new case count is only slightly lower than it was three months ago, the fraction of states that are now under 20 new cases per 100K per day has mushroomed.

Below, lighter = better.
